Sleeping In

There was a time in my life that sleeping in meant waking up between 9 and 10am. I wouldn't ever schedule anything before 10am, because that was simply too early. My friends with children would roll their eyes when I would say, "Not before ten please." Waking up was a process, a slow roll into consciousness. For those of you that are still in that stage of life, cherish it.

These days I usually have one day a week that I have the opportunity to sleep in. My wonderful husband will take Amelia duty on Saturday mornings so that I can have a leisurely lay-in. The unfortunate part is that, even provided with the opportunity, my body is now on a schedule of its own, which does not include sleeping in. These days my eyes pop open between 6 and 6:30am. What makes this situation even more frustrating is that there is no reason for me to be up this early. Amelia doesn't usually wake-up until between 7:30 and 8:30am. So from anywhere from an hour to two hours I toss and turn in bed, dreaming for 20 to 30 minutes at a time, until I hear Amelia's "talking" through the baby monitor. Perhaps my body is preparing for the early morning nursing sessions that will inevitably be here before I know it. I guess somewhere along the way my "mom genes" kicked in and sleeping in is no longer part of my life.

I miss sleeping in. I am hoping that one day I will return to the sleeping in stage of life. Until then I will remind myself how cute my reason for not sleeping in is.

Holy cow she is a dolly. A spitting image of her mommy. And her hair is getting long and less mullet-ish. Yay! At least Amelia can't slam the cupboards; I know you always LOVED when we did that! Ha!!
