The 2024 Summer Olympics

We've started Amelia training for the 2024 Summer Olympics, focusing on the 100 meter dash. Amelia loves to race from one point to another, particularly when I've just suggested its time for a diaper change. Here's a little video of Amelia's training. It also contains one of her new favorite things to do which is jump. Perhaps we'll combine the two and start focusing on hurdles next.

20 Minutes

I don't know what it is about Saturdays, but the past few weeks Amelia and I have struggled with nap time on Saturday. One of us wants Amelia to take a nap, and one of us isn't so keen on that idea. I'm sure you can guess which "one" I am. Today I put her down at her normal nap time of 11:30am and within 10 minutes I heard her calling out, "Mommy, Mommy." I went in there, picked her up, walked and sang for a couple minutes, and put her back in bed. Well, by 1pm there had been two more trips into her bedroom and she still wasn't asleep. It isn't my preferred method of getting Amelia to sleep, but I hate no nap days, so I decided to pull out the big guns and take a drive in the car. Within 20 minutes I had a sleeping Amelia. Pure Bliss!

What's in a Name?

So if you've read this blog since its creation, you may know that I didn't start this blog. I have certainly kept it going, but Erik was the creator, and because of that I had no part in the name. It has been "The Lewis Family" since its creation, and frankly that lacked a certain je nais c'est quoi. Last night as I suffered through another few hours of insomnia, I started thinking of what I would want to rename our blog. I thought about doing the alliteration thing, such as "Lewis Laughs," but wasn't really feeling that. I'm not sure when or how the name "Truly Scrumptious" came to me, but at 2:30 in the morning I decided it sounded pretty good. We'll see if it sticks. Ten points to whoever (whomever?) knows the movie reference without googling it!

Yummy In My Tummy!

I have the debatably good or bad habit of making sweets on Sunday afternoons. Chocolate chip cookies are my favorite, and that is actually what I wanted to make yesterday until I sadly discovered I didn't have any chocolate chips. As I pondered on what other sweet would meet my cravings, I spied the bag of popcorn that had been sitting on my shelf for months.

I have been meaning to make carmel corn for ages but just hadn't gotten around to it. As groceries have been put away, and the bag of popcorn moved around, Erik would always question if I was ever going to make the carmel corn. I would always reply, "Lay off, its food storage."

Yesterday I finally got around to making carmel corn, and it was worth the wait. I thought making the recipe was going to be difficult, but it wasn't too bad. It is so yummy! Thanks to Grandma for the recipe!

See what you're missing.

Better Late Than Never - Happy Independence Day!

I've been reading everyones 4th of July post and I thought I'd share how our Independence Day went. Erik woke up with Amelia, so I got to have a nice lie in. After waking up and eating breakfast, I decided to wash the towels and bathing suits from our pool adventure the day before. I started the washer, added detergent, bent down to grab a handful of laundry, dropped it in the washer, then bent down again to get another handful. As I stood up the muscles in my lower back seized up and I cried out and fell to the ground. Erik came running and helped me to our bed. I couldn't lay flat on my back, and every position seemed to hurt in someway. I was in agony.

I pretty much spent the rest of the day laying down. I've never missed having cable TV so much as I was bored beyond belief. My parents and brother Alex came in the afternoon, and it turned out to be fortuitous to have some extra hands to help with Amelia and around the house. We enjoyed some steaks, corn on the cob, salad, and watermelon for dinner. I don't know about you all, but we've had some delicious watermelon this year. It was a beautiful evening here and Dad and Alex went to enjoy the fireworks at Union Point Park (they shoot them out over the Neuse River) while Amelia slept and Erik, Mom, and I watched Duel on ABC. Not the most exciting day ever but Happy Independence Day one and all nevertheless!
